Backstopping Companies
Background:
Rock It owns nine different full-serve restaurant locations and concepts, with dozens of employees and a corporate office of 25.
Challenge Presented:
Rock It had grown over time and some concepts had been acquired – resulting in vastly different technology across all locations. What technology was consistent was running on different systems and with many different kinds of hardware — some in barely working order. The lead IT employee had recently been fired, and attempted to sabotage the organization’s technology on the way out.
BRT Solution
Biz ReTek began by immediately fortifying the enterprise from eternal threats. A plan was then created for a wholistic approach to the organization’s technology, undertaking a comprehensive review, update and implementation of all technology. Initiatives undertaken included:
- Installed corporate LAN (wired, wireless, firewall, ISP)
- Modernized business applications (hosted and locally installed) for fit, version, and correct license model
- Re-implemented SharePoint for better use of shared files and implemented workflows
- Redesigned internally housed virtual environment for use throughout the organization
- Updated Telephony
- Established a desktop/laptop sunset policy and replacement protocol
- Updated business processes for AR, AP, file retention and others
All initiatives were viewed both from the corporate user and location user standpoint. The Biz ReTek team reviewed all location technologies and designed a plan to fix or replace any nonworking or antiquated systems, including:
- Computer technology (firewall, switches, computers, access points, tablets)
- Customer facing video and related control systems
- Point-of-sale interface — ensuring PCI compliance, vendor support and overall restaurant usability
- Audio & music systems
- Telephony, and
- Video security
Result
All technologies were documented, stabilized, and set to best practices. We then helped Rock It to bring in a junior person to manage the environment with us available for new technologies and any high level issues.
